SMS Set up

How are SMS sent?

  1. You can send for FREE using the android app.
  2. You can send premium SMS with your school name using an SMS gateway.

Note: You can use both app and premium SMS. Simply click Send via App or Send via Provider when you send SMS.

Sender ID

You should set this if you are using one of the SMS providers. If you will be using the app with a sim card to send SMS, the sender ID will automatically be the carrier number e.g. +4477#######

SMS Providers/Gateway

We current support 2 SMS providers:

  1. VoodooSMS (approx. 3.1p per SMS)
  2. ClickSend (approx. 2.5p per SMS) - cheaper and recommended

VoodooSMS is the first SMS provider we supported and in case anyone has an account already with credits, we continued to enable support for this platform.

Free Credit for Schools

We may be able to get you free SMS credit when you sign up to ClickSend. To get this credit, you must sign up via the referal link http://clicksend.com/?u=142708 also provided on the SMS dashboard. Once signed up, there is no need to inform us, the request will be processed by clicksend automatically.

Step by step guide

Using an SMS Provider:

  1. Sign up using the sign up link on the SMS dashboard
  2. For clicksend, in the header bar click the key icon for API credentials
  3. If it doesn't show on the popup, click on "Manage Credentials" in the popup
    • Alternatively, you can find it under menu item "Delevelopers" > API Credentials
  4. Find your username and API key on this page
  5. Copy/Paste it on the SMS dashboard
  6. Set this as the default sender on the SMS dashboard if you want to use this as the default SMS sender.

Using the app:

  1. Download the android app from here (Choose APK as Google Play don't allow SMS to be run from the App)
  2. Open the app, type your host name
  3. Go to Administration
  4. Go to Settings
  5. Scroll down to SMS and enable SMS, tap back.
  6. Due to android security, one more step is now required. Click "SEND QUEUED SMS" - Here you should get a popup message for first time use only to allow the app to send SMS. Allow and go back.
  7. And finally, if SMS is still not being sent, go to Android Settings, Apps (Applications), find IBEAMS app, go to permissions, and enable SMS.
